The Bangladesh Bank (BB) yesterday asked scheduled banks to keep their branches that are located in industrial areas having garment factories open on July 31 (Friday).
The instruction is aimed at facilitating payment of salaries and bonuses of workers on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha.
Banks were asked to remain open from 10am to 1pm and transactions will be made from 10am to 12pm on the day, as per a notice of the BB.
The clearing department of the BB will also remain open from 10am to 12pm on next Friday.
The banks’ branches in garment industrial areas like Dhaka Metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong areas must be kept open, adds the BB notice.
In another circular, the BB asked banks to keep banks’ branches near the Dhaka North and South City Corporation’s cattle markets from 10 am to 8pm on Thursday and Saturday.
Banks were also advised to set up temporary banking booths at cattle markets, says the BB circular.
The instructions were given considering the security of financial transactions in cattle markets, says a high official of the BB.
